Lineament Extraction from Digital Terrain Derivate Model: A Case Study in the Girón–Santa Isabel Basin, South Ecuador

Geological lineaments are linear or curvilinear surfaces that considered a superficial expression of discontinuities on the earth’s surface. The extraction from remotely sensed satellite data is one most frequently used applications remote sensing in geology. This study focuses semi-automatic Girón–Santa Isabel basin using Topographic Position Index (TPI). were extracted PCI Geomatics 2016 software and analyzed ArcGIS Rockworks software. Statistical density map analyses performed; then, these results interpreted to obtain geological lineaments. Finally, bibliographic verification was carried out, structures such as faults folds defined. total number 76, 71 them defined faults, longest with length 33 km. It determined preferential orientation NE–SW, which consistent axis basin. methodology can be useful optimize time reduce costs when gathering structural information area first stage mining prospecting educational field.
